Carrie Andrews ‘Running’ for Election in the 21st LD SATURDAY, July 17, 2005 • Rochester, NY: If you think running for office isn’t “fun” anymore, you should think again. Carrie Andrews, Democratic Primary Candidate for the 21st Monroe County Legislature seat, is being joined by a couple dozen of her friends for a “Fun Run” through her district. Among the joggers in the 5k run will be former Rochester Police Chief, Bob Duffy. The run starts at 8:00 a.m. at Flex Gym, 605 Culver Road and runners will make several stops along the way at businesses in the District for water and rest. “We wanted to come up with an event to raise a little money for the campaign that highlighted the district, was fun and was unusual,” said Andrews, a runner who (before the campaign) ran 20 to 30 miles a week. “Once you start running for office, you start walking instead,” said Carrie. “Walking the neighborhoods, the streets and the festivals introducing yourself to voters and listening to their concerns.” The race route heads off from Flex Gym down Atlantic Avenue for a stop at Starry Nights Cafe. Then, up Goodman and across Main to Charlie Brown’s Restaurant. Following a quick stop there for water, they’ll head down Parsells to the Golden Fox Restaurant on Culver Road and then back to Flex Gym -- an approximate 5 k run. “Running for office is serious business,” said Andrews. “For an hour or so though, my friends and volunteersget to have a little fun!”
