With Sandra Day O'Connor's resignation from the U.S. Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade is under attack. It is more important than ever to have supporters of a woman's right to chose in all levels of government. Carrie is pro-choice and pro-family. She's the only pro-choice Democrat running for this office.
Carrie will fight for
- Good schools for our children
- Safe neighborhoods
- Accessible and affordable health care for our families.
Women comprise over 50% of the population, yet it doesn't feel like we get our fair share:
- Only 13 out of 100 U.S. Senators are women.
- Only 62 out of 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives are women.
Only 4 of the 29 Monroe County Legislators are women.
- A full-time working woman earns $. 73 for every $1.00 received by a man. (AFL-CIO & the Institute for Women's Policy Research, Equal Pay for Working Families: National and State Data on Pay Gap and Its Costs (1999)).
- More than half of the families living in poverty in Rochester are female head of household families (2003 American Community Survey, U.S. Census Bureau).
- More than 77% of AIDS cases in the US are African American and Hispanic Women (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, National Institute of Health).
- About 1 in 4 African American Women over the age of 55 has diabetes, nearly twice the rate for white women (American Diabetes Association).
- Local breast cancer incidence is 11% higher than the national average (Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency).
